Hi Reader

Summer might be Europe's busiest travel season, but after living in the UK as Aussie expats for over 10 years now, we've discovered that some destinations are actually better once summer ends.

The crowds thin out. Accommodation often becomes more affordable. Walking trails are quieter, cafΓ©s are easier to enjoy, and many places simply feel more authentic once the peak-season rush has gone.

Whether you're planning a house sit, a rail adventure or simply deciding where to travel next, autumn can be one of the smartest times to explore.

Here are five EU / UK destinations we'd happily choose in September and October over the middle of summer.

πŸ‚ 5 Places That Are Even Better in Autumn

Scotland
The Highlands take on spectacular autumn colours, the air is crisp, and scenic rail journeys become even more memorable.

Lake Bled, Slovenia
The famous lakeside views are every bit as beautiful, but with fewer tour groups and a much more relaxed atmosphere.

The Cotswolds, England
Golden stone villages, cosy pubs and countryside walks make autumn arguably the prettiest season to visit.

Bavaria, Germany
From alpine scenery to traditional villages and autumn festivals, Bavaria really comes alive after summer.

Alsace, France
Half-timbered villages, vineyards beginning to change colour and fantastic local food make this one of Europe's most underrated autumn escapes.

The best part? These destinations often become less expensive, less crowded and more enjoyable once the summer holidays finish.

Sometimes the best travel decision isn't where you go, it's when you go.

Free Guide for House Sitters and Home Owners (Pet Parents):
One Conversation Can Prevent a Lot of Problems

One of the easiest ways to avoid misunderstandings isn't reading more reviews.

It's having better conversations before the sit even begins.

That's exactly why we created our free Before You Say "Yes" to a House Sit e-Guide.

It walks both homeowners and sitters through the questions worth asking before the keys are handed over, helping everyone start the sit with confidence and clear expectations.

Hi Reader Long House Sits: 3 Things Every Sitter Should Know A 2.5-month house sit sparked a really interesting conversation in our Facebook group this week. Someone who had just been offered the sit asked some questions about taking time away during a longer commitment, and whether homeowners might have someone local who could help if needed. The discussion was particularly interesting because many experienced sitters said these...

Hi Reader Travel & House Sitting Reviews: Don’t Just Look at the Stars One of our biggest discussions in the Facebook group this week wasn’t about travel destinations or pets. It was about reviews. More specifically… If a house sit (or sitter) wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t great, would you leave less than five stars? The conversation quickly grew because people saw it from both sides. Homeowners worried about unfair...
