5 Small Wins That Lead to Bigger Adventures

It’s been hard to avoid sport these past few weeks.

Wimbledon has wrapped up for another year, and also here in the UK, millions of us were glued to the football as England took on Argentina in the World Cup semi-final. Let's not go there 😭

Like so many people, I was hoping for a different result. England started brilliantly, but it just wasn’t our night.

Watching both tournaments reminded me of something that applies just as much to travel and building a flexible life as it does to elite sport.

We usually only see the big moments.

The trophy.

The final.

The dream destination.

The person who’s travelling full-time, working remotely from a beach café or hopping from one amazing house sit to the next.

What we don’t see are the hundreds of small wins that got them there.

The profile they finally updated.

The first remote job they applied for.

The house sit they almost didn’t apply for because they thought they weren’t experienced enough.

The AI tool they took time to learn.

The weekend trip that gave them the confidence to book something bigger.

Big adventures rarely begin with one giant leap.

They begin with lots of small wins that quietly build confidence over time.

So this week, instead of thinking about everything you want to achieve, why not choose just one small win?

  1. Refresh one profile
Whether it’s LinkedIn, your house-sitting profile or your CV, spend 15 minutes making it stronger.
  2. Apply for one opportunity
One remote job. One house sit. One freelance project. You only need one “yes”.
  3. Learn one new skill
It could be an AI tool, a Canva shortcut, an interview technique or something that simply makes your work a little easier.
  4. Plan one future adventure
Research somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit. Sometimes planning is the spark that gets everything moving.
  5. Start one conversation
Message someone you’ve met travelling, reconnect with an old colleague or ask a question in a community. Opportunities often begin with a simple conversation.

You don’t have to win every week.

You just have to keep moving forward.

Because those small wins have a funny way of turning into the biggest adventures.

Hi Reader Summer might be Europe's busiest travel season, but after living in the UK as Aussie expats for over 10 years now, we've discovered that some destinations are actually better once summer ends. The crowds thin out. Accommodation often becomes more affordable. Walking trails are quieter, cafés are easier to enjoy, and many places simply feel more authentic once the peak-season rush has gone. Hi Reader Long House Sits: 3 Things Every Sitter Should Know A 2.5-month house sit sparked a really interesting conversation in our Facebook group this week. Someone who had just been offered the sit asked some questions about taking time away during a longer commitment, and whether homeowners might have someone local who could help if needed. The discussion was particularly interesting because many experienced sitters said these...
