Hi Reader

One thing I’ve noticed in our Facebook group lately is that although things are a little quieter than peak season, house sits are still popping up.

And that’s important because a lot of people assume that by mid-June they’ve missed their chance for summer travel.

In reality, many homeowners are only just finalising plans for July and August.

Travel dates change. Family plans shift. Work trips come up unexpectedly. Pets still need care.

So if you’d like to house sit this summer, don’t assume it’s too late.

Here are five things we’d focus on this week:

  1. Refresh your profile
Update your profile photo, introduction and availability. A profile that’s clearly active tends to get more attention than one that hasn’t been touched for months.
  2. Apply faster
Many homeowners receive applications quickly. If you see a sit that genuinely suits you, don’t spend days overthinking it.
  3. Be flexible on location
You might have your heart set on Tuscany or Cornwall, but sometimes the best opportunities come from being open-minded.
  4. Keep an eye on Facebook groups
Last-minute opportunities often appear in community groups before they make it onto the larger platforms. There's three great ones that just popped up on our Group in the past couple of days!
  5. Improve your communication
A friendly, clear message often stands out more than a long application. Homeowners want to feel confident you’ll be easy to communicate with. Tip: don't be afraid to test ai to edit your outreach - prompt Claude or ChatGPT to "check for clarity and friendliness".

And on the topic of communication…

One of the biggest reasons sits go wrong isn’t the pets, the property or the travel arrangements.

It’s unclear expectations.

That’s why we’ve created a brand-new FREE resource:

🌟The Safe and Secure Pre-House-Sit Clarity Guide🌟

It’s a practical conversation checklist for both homeowners and sitters, covering the questions worth discussing before a sit begins so everyone feels clear, confident and prepared.

Whether you’re new to house sitting or you’ve done dozens of sits, a better conversation upfront can make all the difference.

Hi Reader Summer might be Europe's busiest travel season, but after living in the UK as Aussie expats for over 10 years now, we've discovered that some destinations are actually better once summer ends. The crowds thin out. Accommodation often becomes more affordable. Walking trails are quieter, cafés are easier to enjoy, and many places simply feel more authentic once the peak-season rush has gone. The discussion was particularly interesting because many experienced sitters said these...
